Arrows of Love
lino prints

The Arrows of Love are releasing a cover of Zager & Evans' apocalyptic 'In the Year 2525'. It'll be all over itunes and the usual digital outlets but they are releasing 20 super limited edition physical copies, each made by a different artist. I was lucky enough to be asked to make one by the band, and produced this series of lino prints for the project.

I see the song as a cautionary tale of mankind becoming overwhelmed by technology and losing its essential humanity in the process. I chose to reflect this with a sequence of prints, cutting away parts of the block after each impression until the human figure at its centre was reduced to a shell. Then I cut a new block incorporating technological elements to overprint the first batch in reverse order. If you look at the pictures on the left I hope you'll work out what I mean.

I don't have access to a press at the moment so I did these on the kitchen table, which made aligning the two blocks pretty tricky. I'm very pleased to be back into lino printing and I'm looking forward to doing some more.
